we were trying to figure out how to share the rest of our SA images with you guys and were thinking of grouping cape town in one final post but as I was putting these together I felt that table mountain needed its own. of all my trips to cape town we casually discussed going up to table mountain but we “never had enough time” or “it was too crowded, windy, cold” we always made excuses. it seemed touristy and how good would the shots really turn out? was it worth it? so we always skipped it. on the last trip we drove from hermanus into cape town – we were tired, ready for naps before heading out for the night. it was a clear day – the “table cloth” was nowhere to be seen and my sister in law called our room and suggested we try to go up. again we put it off – said let’s try tomorrow, let’s just relax for a minute….then taryn called our room – “I just called – table mountain is open – we should go.”  she sounded so convincing.  I convinced Rich, we called Deb back and rallied  the group and headed up.  I’m so glad we did.  It will go down as one of my fondest memories in South Africa – fondest memories ever.  It was the last cable car of the day, we pretty much had the whole mountain to ourselves – we grabbed some beers and savannah drys and watched the most breathtakingly beautiful sunset I’ve ever witnessed.  It was clear we had lucked out.  table mountain is very hit or miss – you need to time it perfectly and I think we picked the best day of the year. maybe the best day in 5 years. and I’m so glad we put it off all those other trips – or else we may not have experienced this.  and the next day? clouds and rain.
